This painting is fully based on the lyrics of the song The Young by Collarbone. This is simply how I see the imagery in my head. Let the lyrics speak for themselves.

This painting is based on a song that in my interpretation tells the story of a woman who leaves everything behind; her relationships, pets, job, car… What’s left she changes; her sheets, last name and phone number. She runs away from absolutely everything. She learns how to close up, how to avoid straight eye contact and how to spend the holidays alone. She wants to be free, free and alone. But somehow she ends up being free and lonely instead.

This painting was followed by a sequel called Astronaut that’s inspired by a song with the same title. The woman keeps on running and she becomes so incredibly free and alone that her running speeds up, gravity loses all meaning and suddenly her feet are miles off the ground. She drifts in space without a destination with her only hope being she’d never come up with one or arrive there.

This is an abstract portrait of Dallas Green, who is known for his work as the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. As much as I love that band, I have to admit I’m a bigger fan of his melodic acoustic folk sidekick City & Colour.

I love his style, tattoos and the gloomy hope in his eyes so much that I could paint a thousand pictures of him. None of this still compares to my love for his music in particular.

This painting portraits a man running through the city during morning twilight. It’s the blue moment, when the street lights are just about to fade and the night is turning into day. The man has made the mistake of stopping just for a while, taking a breath from everything in his life and only in that moment has he realized how truly scared he is when standing still. So he picks up his feet and keeps on running. That’s all he does for now.

Later on I painted a sequel for this painting. Undo portraits the same man later on his journey; unable to fulfill the empty spots in his life, to make up for his mistakes or to find the answers he needs, he buries himself in to the sand to escape from the anxiety.

This is one of my favorite paintings I’ve done so far. It portraits the innocence of a blue eyed cupid with a high contrast to mixed feelings that altogether can get a bit messy. All this little cupid wants is love, but getting it might sometimes need methods that might seem a bit harsh. Love is a battlefield and this Cupid is flying in the middle of it.

This was a very important painting for me and ended a certain era in my life. I love the way it turned out to be and I’m bummed to not own a scanner so I could show a better picture for you guys, the colors are actually brighter.

The whole set on my Flickr.

All the shots were taken at Flow Festival in Helsinki on August 2011. This was my first true attempt on live photography and I ended up getting really excited about it.

I fell in love with Midlake at the late summer of 2010 and their The Courage Of Others album got me through a rough fall and winter. I found it incredibly comforting. Once I saw them live on November in Helsinki and at the latest that’s when they completely stole my heart.

Their music is melancholic and gloomy so I wanted to keep the pictures atmospheric as well. That’s why I, for example, made most of the pictures black and white.

Criticism is very well appreciated as I am new in this game!

The whole set on my Flickr.

All the shots were taken at Flow Festival in Helsinki on August 2011. This was my first true attempt on live photography and I ended up getting really excited about it. All the criticism is very well appreciated as I am very new at this!

I had never heard of Warpaint beforehand but I really enjoyed them live. They were lovely to take pictures to.

The lights were pretty red but I tried to make it work. On the other hand I liked the pink touch on the pictures so I didn’t want to completely erase it.

Oliver Sykes is the lead singer of the band Bring Me The Horizon originating From the UK. He is also known for his higher piched screams rather than cookie monster screams produced by most metal bands. He also owns the clothing company called Drop Dead. And according to Urban Dictionary is “known for his stupid stunts, tattoos, and his scene hair.” (I love Urban dictionary, it makes me laugh so badly every time.)

I met the man in January. The world of internet can be cruel at times, and as I had been doing my research as a journalist I had been implied more than once about Oli not being a nice guy, especially to journalists. I’m a pretty sensitive spirit so I take everything to heart but I’ve decided to not judge anyone I haven’t met personally. I have to admit I was still really nervous about meeting him after all that talk since I tend to get a bit awkward(er) around people that aren’t nice to me. However, I was glad to be there to prove the stupidity of the internet. Oli was far from an a-hole, he was friendly all the way and despite the tattoos covering most of his skin - quite adorable.

I was interested in drawing a portrait of him because his looks is quite identifiable. He has this roughness and depth in his eyes, and his tattoos seemed really fun to re-create. And they were! This was a really fun piece to draw.
